CARSHARE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DOES IT WORK?

S*ELECTRIC is an online matchmaker of sorts. The web-based app brings together local owners of electric-drive cars and drivers who need the temporary, short-term, local use of an automobile for their personal transportation needs. Our KYC ("Know Your Customer") vetting process screens would-be borrowers to ensure lenders that their vehicles will be cared for.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The owner of each loaned vehicle sets their own prices and terms of usage.

HOW LONG CAN CARS BE BORROWED?

The vehicle owner determines when and how long they are willing to loan their vehicles: from a few hours to a week or more. This information is displayed on each lenders' vehicle profile page, which includes a calendar displaying available days and times.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LIABILITY INSURANCE?

We are currently working to resolve this question.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTENANCE?

The vehicle owner is responsible for all vehicle maintenance. They are encouraged to keep their vehicles in good condition. One of the benefits of owning electric vehicles is they require very little upkeep and are highly dependable.

WHO PAYS FOR THE ELECTRICITY

If the borrowed period is less than 24-hours, the vehicle owner shall be responsible for providing the borrower with a fully charged battery. Periods longer than 24 hours, the borrower shall be responsible for keeping the battery charged, returning the vehicle to the owner as nearly fully charged as is practical.

DOES A CHARGER COME WITH THE CAR?

We encourage the lender to supply the borrower with a Level I (110V) charger if the borrowed period is more than 24 hours. The borrower shall provide a heavy-duty extension chord with which to connect the charger and car to their selected outlet. Care shall be taken to insure the loaned charger is protected from weather, damage, and theft. In the event the charger is lost or damaged, the borrower shall be responsible with replacement with comparable unit or cash equivalent (typically $200).

HOW DO I TAKE DELIVERY OF THE BORROWED VEHICLE

The borrower shall be reponsible to taking delivery and drop-off of the loaned vehicle at a location designated by the lender, typically their home or business. If the borrower wishs to have the vehicle delivered, they shall make arrangements with the lender, who can decide to charge a delivery/pickup fee at their descretion.

HOW DO I PAY FOR USE OF THE VEHICLE?

With credit card on the S*ELECTRIC website.
